State~Dependent Memories

There are some memories that are state-dependent, that only arise when your feeling state is similar to what it was during the event. Body work can put people into a trance ~a place of total relaxation, a meditative state. During acupressure sessions attention is focused first on particular main points, while related distal points are held. This allows the client to go more and more deeply into a trance, which can be described as focused attention-which is the same as focusing your attention on a mantra, a flame, or your breathing. During this state memories may arise and if the client chooses to focus on them, and where they feel them in their bodies, it allows for the possibility of releasing muscular tension that's been held in the body since the event.
