There is a kabbalistic saying,
“Make for yourself a teacher and acquire for yourself a friend.”

From this comes two key principles that can ensure your success on your spiritual path.

They say, you cannot be successful on this path without a teacher. Without a constant source of feedback, guidance, and inspiration, how can you expect to reach your goals and maintain continuous growth?

And they’re not just talking about a teacher in a classroom. While that’s important it’s not the same as having an individual who knows you inside and out, is there to support you 100 percent, someone who walks the walk & talks the talk while still working on their own issues.

Then, it’s also helpful to choose a tzadik (elevated soul), someone who walked and talked the spiritual path. Jesus Is my dude, so there’s that support. He speaks directly to my soul, I can imagine I was his student in a previous life.

What I really liked reading was their second key principle that says, your success on your spiritual path is ensured, if you have people around who can help you with your journey. The sages who wrote, “Make for yourself a teacher and acquire for yourself a friend,” chose to equate the power of a teacher and the power of friends. Surrounding yourself with spiritually developed people is crucial to my success.

“Friends are like oxygen, which we all need to live. But some of us are so afraid to be without air that we wear an oxygen mask and become completely dependent on outside influences for support. Other people might think they don’t need to breathe deeply at all.

Dependency and isolation are both incorrect. You need to be in the middle and interdependent, standing on your own two feet, while simultaneously being around others who are 100% desiring to help you do your work.

I Look around. Am I breathing in the right kind of people who can help me on my journey?

I could be better at this.
